News Release: Organisation of a workshop by ''LIFE Natura2000 Value Crete'' at the Exhibition Premises of the Natural History Museum of Crete on the 24th of June 2017

The workshop of the project LIFE Natura2000Value Crete took place in Heraklion, Municipality of Heraklion on the 24th of June 2017 and it is the 13th of a series of 24 workshops which will be held in all of the Municipalities of Crete in the context of the project's actions. Topic covered in the workshop was "NATURA 2000 Sites: Ally or enemy of the social prosperity?" with the aim of informing the public with regards to the NATURA 2000 sites at European, national and local level, the legal framework that governs them  and the degree of citizens' compliance with it, the socio-economic benefits provided by nature and wildlife, the funding opportunities in the primary sector, as well as an example of connection between nature and tourism through the promotion of traditional products by tourist enterprises. During the workshop, the new documentary of the project was presented to the attendants who discussed its content with the scientists of NHMC (Action C14: Open events). The last thematic session of the workshop focused on the long-lasting relationship between nature and human psychology, the various manifestations of culture in Crete (music, dance, traditional costumes, making of musical instruments). The speech about the psychological benefits we receive from nature was accompanied by the presentation of photographic material from all over Crete. Members of α traditional art workshop based in Heraklion presented local costumes coming from various parts of the island. Finally, the workshop was completed with traditional music and discussion between the participants.
